Deadly Nightshade
This plant is called Deadly Nightshade. Sounds like something you don't want growing in your yard, but there is a good chance it is. It's a fast-growing vine. It produces small dark purple flowers and then berries that are a little larger and darker than blueberries, and as such presents a risk to children in particular. Needless to say it can be dangerous. We'll see it in flower and fruit soon enough.
Tend to be easy to pull.
Look for it along fences, borders, and growing in and through bushes.

It is also related to the tomato - which is why people were very skeptical about eating tomatoes at first.
ReplyDeleteGrowing up this was one of the plants I was taught to recognize at a very early age ... probably around 2 or 3 years old. It is dangerous, especially for small children.
