Wood Sorrel

The wood sorrel around Chicago is going into flower. At this point it is even more easily distinguished from the clover that it is often mistaken for -- clover has pom-pomy round flowers, WS has little yellow ones. Again, if it's growing someplace you trust, this is a tasty little plant -- light and lemony.

Wood sorrel is a relatively benign plant. Often it is mistaken for clover, but wood sorrel is easily distinguished by it's size (larger) and it's bushy shape (it's still a little plant). It is also delicious -- make sure you know and trust the safety of your source, but if you find it growing, say, in your potted tomatoes, you will enjoy its springy lemony flavor.
